Latte Wedding Cake
I fell in love with this couple when I first met them....and their wedding was everything I would want if I were to do it again (not that I am planning anything...I am VERY HAPPILY MARRIED!). The cake design, was something I had seen in a magazine and fell in love with, and was thrilled when they chose it to base their wedding cake from. Now while I was in love with the cake, the couple, the venue, and everything else, this was by far the most stressful wedding I have ever made the cake for...so far!!!
The cake baked and covered beautifully, but those darn Bride and Groom figurines were an absolute nightmare! I made them without too much drama, but this last week has been raining, and when it hasn't been raining, it has been so muggy and humid it was a nightmare!!! All of the fellow cake decorators out there will understand completely!
Now, we have air conditioning, and my wonderful husband discovered that they have a "dry" mode, which removes the humidity from the room.... you would think that this would solve the problem...but no, every now and then, I would go into the room to discover the figurines so shiny and sticky that I was afraid they were going to melt completely and give the wicked witch from the west a run for her money. Thankfully, as shiny as they got, they never lost their shape, and in the end I think they look remarkably good!
As I mentioned above the cake design was based on one found in a Wedding Cakes Magazine, but we made a few alterations to make it our own. For the bottom tier, we liked the double height cakes, but thought they were a bit extreme, so I suggested rather that doubling the height, we just increase it by half. So the bottom tier is a triple layer caramel mud cake with white chocolate ganache. It stood approximately 14cm high. The top tier is a toblerone mud cake, with two layers filled and iced with dark chocolate ganache.

Wedding Cake
This three tiered wedding cake was covered with over 200 mini fondant daisies. I thought I had made way too many daisies and would be left with a huge pile left over....in the end I used every single white daisy I had made, and was left wishing I had more to add. Although, in saying that, I think I am glad I ran out, because in a design like this it is hard to know when to stop...so running out of flowers is a good sign that the time is NOW!!!
The cake was a dark chocolate mud cake bottom tier, white chocolate middle tier, and marbled white and dark chocolate mud cake for the top tier.
The ribbon was navy blue to match the bridesmaids, and the bows at the back of the cake matched the bows on the invitations.

Fushia Fantasy
This is a small 6" square fruit cake which I decorated to add to my wedding cake portfolio. A very simple but effective design.

Birdcage Cake
I must admit, that on first impressions, I wasn't very keen on the idea of a bird cage for a wedding cake, however over the past few months of pondering over the design (mainly contemplating how I was going to tackle the cake) I fell more and more in love with it! The whole wedding had a bird theme, which was carried out beautifully. The table centrepieces were twigs with twinkle lights, with little birds in the "trees", and the place settings doubled as favours as they were delicious sugar cookies each piped with the guests names.
The cake was a three tier chocolate mud cake, which stood 30cm high. I LOVED the cake, it was dainty and feminine with a lovely vintage feel. The design was based heavily on the cake in the 'Wedding Cakes - a design source' magazine. To make the cake large enough to serve almost 100 guests, I made it taller including 2 full height tiers, then the top dome tier. I also did my own thing with the flowers and vines, and added the little pink ladybug on the top.
The biscuits were a custom design, my husband made the cutter and the piping detail was added to compliment the detailing on the birds on the cake.

Wedding Cake
I decided last month to enter a wedding cake and set of birthday cupcakes into our local show's cake decorating competition...and here is my wedding cake entry. It will also double as a display cake for a wedding expo in a couple of months. The colours were inspired by my logo, and the fact that 'tiffany blue' is my favourite colour at the moment. While I wasn't intending the cake to be quite this "pretty", (I actually wanted it to be really simple, sleek and modern) the requirements for the entry included piping work, so this is what I came up with. I haven't ever done piping work on a cake before, so that was a learning curve, but I am fairly happy with the result - and while I don't think I will be winning any prizes it was great fun and a great excuse to make another cake :)
